Winter in the valleys

By late autumn the berries are harvested and the valleys of Bumthang grow quiet. Snow settles on the seabuckthorn bushes, which rest through the cold months.

Their deep roots hold the riverbanks together through winter, and in spring the first silver-green leaves return — the start of another slow season before the next harvest.
